DXB retains position as world’s busiest international airport
The major international hub has done it again…
On Monday, April 15, 2024, the Airports Council International (ACI) unveiled that Dubai International (DXB) has retained its title as the world’s busiest international airport for international travel, for the 10th year running.

His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai shared a post on his social media platform X (previously called Twitter) stating ‘Dubai International, DXB, has become the second busiest airport in the world for the first time, according to the 2023 Airports Council International rankings, moving up 5 places from its 2022 position.’
ACI World Director General Luis Felipe de Oliveira added, “…perennial leaders from the US continue to dominate the top 10 busiest airports for passengers,” but added ‘there are notable shifts’ with Dubai International Airport jumping to the second rank for the first time.
Speaking on the achivements, Dubai Airports’ CEO, Paul Griffiths added that throughout the past decade, ‘DXB has surpassed many records and attained numerous milestones, from welcoming our billionth passenger to introducing new terminals and facilities, collaborating with numerous airlines to broaden connectivity to diverse global destinations, all the while enhancing every aspect of the airport experience for our guests.’
Griffiths says the success is owed to the collective efforts of DXB’s service partners within the airport community and the broader aviation, travel, and tourism sectors. He said, ‘Together, we have bolstered Dubai’s reputation as the premier destination, offering unparalleled travel experiences worldwide.”
Looking ahead, Griffiths says ‘our focus remains clear. We are determined to maintain DXB’s dominant position for the next decade and beyond. Through sustained collaboration and innovation, we are poised to shape the future of global aviation, ensuring DXB remains synonymous with excellence across every facet of the passenger journey.’
Airport rankings are based on data gathered from over 2,600 airports across more than 180 countries and territories globally. This vast dataset places ACI World in a distinctive position as the foremost authority on airport travel demand, ensuring the utmost accuracy and reliability in its rankings.
