In the pantheon of exciting questions – ‘Will you marry me?’, ‘Do you want my last brownie?’ and ‘Would you like to meet Beyonce?’ being in our top five – is this one: ‘Fancy a takeaway?’ Nothing stirs the tastebuds here at What’s On HQ more than when one of the team pipes up at 11.30am and poses this tantalising teaser. The Dubai restaurant scene hasn’t taken a break over the summer. French mega chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten has fired up the ovens in his new spot JG Dining Room at the Four Seasons Resort in Jumeirah. For something a little less fancy, try the new healthy Chinese place Kuai at BoxPark, mini burgers at Slider Station in the nearby Galleria Mall, or the always packed Big Chefs at The Beach in JBR. If you’re looking for somewhere to stretch your vocal cords, check out K Lounge, a new karaoke bar that has the technology to disguise even your worst warble.

Our culture section is filled with news of Dubai’s first sound art exhibition, the inspiring Rock Camp For Girls, Helen Mirren as The Queen on stage, art exhibitions plus all of August’s cinema releases including Jake Gyllenhaal’s tilt at an Oscar in Southpaw. Plus, we have an interview with UAE-based singer and incessant gigger Adam Baluch as he releases his first EP.

There’s news of new fitness classes and gyms, three new barber shops for blokes with beards, spa news, and something called a Turkish Get Up. No, it’s not the name of an impossibly cool new London band. It’s a fitness move that is the single best thing you can do for your body, whatever your age.
