You’re probably fed up of traffic if you’re reading this, so here’s some good news…

A new Dhs1.5bn bridge project will cut traffic for 600,000 people, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has said.

The Al Fay Road Improvement Project will develop five key intersections with 13,500 metres of bridges and 12,900 metres of roads.

It will extend from intersections with Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road before passing through Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street, before continuing to Emirates Road.

HE Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), said it would particularly serve Dubai Sports City, Jumeirah Village Circle, Dubai Production City, Jumeirah Golf Estates, Tilal Al Ghaf, Damac Lagoons, The Oasis and Remraam.

The RTA believes this will ease traffic for around 600,000 people by increasing the road’s capacity to 64,400 vehicles per hour.

It added the move was aimed to deal with Dubai’s growing population and the needs of “urban development”.

Al Tayer added: “Given the massive scale of the project, which includes the development of five intersections, it has been divided into two phases.

“The first intersection will include a two-lane bridge at the intersection of Al Khail Road and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, measuring 1,255 metres in length and with a capacity of 3,200 vehicles per hour, for left turns for traffic coming from Deira on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road to Al Fay Road in the direction of Emirates Road.

“The number of service road lanes in both directions will be increased to increase the capacity and improve the level of traffic service at the intersection. It also includes the construction of two bridges with two lanes in each direction, measuring 2,040 metres in length, with a capacity of 6,400 vehicles per hour in both directions.

“The bridge will serve the direct traffic movement to and from Jumeirah Village Circle, and link them to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road.”

There will be a bridge constructed on Al Fay Road, with four lanes in each direction.

It added a roundabout will be converted into a surface intersection to ease traffic to and from Dubai Sports City and Dubai Production City.

And there will be a two-lane flyover service road on Al Fay Road, and a new intersection on Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Road with Al Fay Road.

Al Tayer added: “At the fourth intersection (Al Fay Road with Emirates Road), a two-lane bridge will be constructed for left turns for traffic coming from Al Fay Road to Emirates Road in the direction of Al Aweer and Al Khawaneej, reaching Sharjah and the Northern Emirates.

“The bridge is 1,000 metres long and has a capacity of 3,200 vehicles per hour. It also includes the construction of a two-lane bridge for left turns for traffic coming from Emirates Road to Al Fay Road in the direction of Deira.

“The bridge is 1,150 metres long and has a capacity of 3,200 vehicles per hour. As for the fifth intersection, direct entrances will be constructed from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road to Dubai Production City through the construction of two two-lane bridges, 2,250 metres long, with a capacity of 6,400 vehicles per hour for the two bridges, to provide direct traffic movement from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road to Dubai Production City and vice versa.”
