Coldest places in the UAE to escape the final weeks of summer
The UAE’s hottest stretch of the year, known as the Al Mirzam period, ran from July 29 to August 10 and is finally over. Marked by scorching desert winds and extreme heat, this season saw temperatures climb to a sweltering 51.8°C in Sweihan, Al Ain, on August 1, the highest recorded in 2025 so far.
While the worst of the heat has passed, mid 40°C highs will still linger in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Sharjah, with inland areas possibly reaching 48°C this week. Scattered rain may offer short bursts of relief, but air-conditioning will remain a daily essential.
As we push through the final weeks of summer, many of us are craving a touch of cool to break the heat. Here are some of the coldest places in the UAE where you can enjoy exactly that.
Where to find cool spots
High in the UAE’s mountains, summer mornings can dip into the low 20s, cool enough for a light jacket. A few of these refreshing escapes are easily accessible to visitors.
Coolest mountain mornings:
-
Al Heben Mountain in Fujairah, where mornings can drop to 21.4°C.
-
Jebel Jais in Ras Al Khaimah, where early temperatures sit around 23°C.
-
Mebreh Mountain in Fujairah, where mornings average about 24°C.
Easy to reach cool escapes:
-
Al Suhub Rest Area in Khor Fakkan, Sharjah, which sits 650 metres above sea level and can be reached in any type of car. Morning clouds often roll in, dropping the temperature to between 18°C and 23°C.
-
Farfar Mountain in Fujairah, standing 710 metres above sea level. You’ll need an off-road vehicle to get there, but mornings can feel as crisp as a winter’s day.
On the eastern coast, low clouds often cling to the mountain peaks until midday, letting you walk through the mist, perfect for hiking, sightseeing, or a scenic drive.
With the coast still sweltering, these mountain hideaways offer a rare chance to enjoy the outdoors without overheating.
