Dubai Harbour just got a major traffic upgrade by cutting cutting travel times from 12 minutes to just 3 minutes.

Getting to Dubai Harbour is now a whole lot quicker. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has opened a new bridge connecting Sheikh Zayed Road directly to Dubai Harbour.

The bridge officially opened on Friday, June 19, and forms part of a wider infrastructure project designed to improve traffic flow and support Dubai’s continued growth.

A faster route to Dubai Harbour

The new bridge provides direct access to Dubai Harbour for motorists travelling from both Jebel Ali and Deira. With two lanes in each direction, the bridge can accommodate up to 6,000 vehicles per hour, helping ease congestion in one of Dubai’s busiest waterfront districts.

Dubai Harbour is home to some of the region’s largest marinas, as well as a growing collection of residential, hospitality and leisure developments, making improved access a key priority for the area.

More improvements still to come

While the bridge is now open, the project is not yet fully complete. RTA says additional road links connecting Dubai Harbour to Al Naseem Street and key junctions along King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Street are expected to open in July.

The wider project also includes upgrades to surrounding roads and intersections, aimed at improving traffic distribution and reducing bottlenecks across the area.

By the numbers

The new bridge stretches approximately 1.5 kilometres and begins near Interchange 5 on Sheikh Zayed Road, close to the American University in Dubai

Key project highlights include:

  • Two lanes in each direction
  • Capacity for up to 6,000 vehicles per hour
  • Five integrated ramps
  • Upgrades to four major intersections

According to RTA, construction is now around 90% complete.

The project involved more than 1,400 engineers and workers, over 4.2 million working hours, and the use of 45,000 cubic metres of concrete and 8,200 tonnes of steel.
