Been meaning to make a visit to the Louvre Abu Dhabi? Head on over this weekend, as it’s your last chance to see Una Bulaqueña – the iconic oil painting by Filipino artist Juan Luna – within the museum’s permanent galleries. The painting was declared a National Cultural Treasure in 2008, which means it’s one of the Louvre Abu Dhabi’s exceptional loan and a rare display of the masterpiece outside of the Philippines. It offers visitors an insight into Filipino identity, history, and artistic expression. The artist behind the piece, Juan Luna, is one of the Philippines’ most celebrated artists and Una Bulaqueña reflects his unique ability to merge European academic traditions with a deep sense of Filipino identity. It was created in 1895 during the Spanish occupation of the Philippines and captures a poised young Filipina woman from Bulacan, a province known for its wealth, cultural refinement, and strong nationalist sentiment. It will be on view only until June 28, 2026.
