The first Etihad Rail passenger train has officially arrived in Abu Dhabi, connecting Fujairah, Sharjah and Dubai in a 105-minute journey

The wait is finally over. The UAE’s first Etihad Rail passenger service has officially arrived in Abu Dhabi, giving passengers their first glimpse of rail travel across the Emirates. The inaugural journey set off from Fujairah early this morning before making its way through Sharjah and Dubai, arriving in the capital in just under one hour and 45 minutes.

A landmark journey

The first passenger service departed Fujairah at approximately 5.34am before travelling through Sharjah and Dubai, arriving in Abu Dhabi at 7.19am. As the train pulled into the station, crowds gathered to welcome passengers with applause, creating a celebratory atmosphere as the UAE officially entered a new chapter in public transport.

What’s the journey like?

According to Gulf News, among the first passengers was Greeny, who travelled with her family on the inaugural service. She described the journey as smooth and comfortable, adding that the onboard hospitality stood out just as much as the journey itself. “The food and service were amazing,” she said, making the experience even more special for her family.

Passengers stepping off the train were greeted with a traditional Emirati dance as celebrations got underway at the station. The arrival marked the beginning of regular passenger rail travel in the UAE.

A celebration at the station

The station quickly filled with people keen to witness the occasion. A complimentary photo booth, colourful balloons, snacks and drinks helped turn the arrival into a celebration, with many passengers stopping to capture photos before continuing their journey.
