Next UAE public holiday in August could bring a long weekend
Good news for everyone in the UAE. Another UAE public holiday is on the horizon next month
Government and private sector employees across the UAE are expected to receive a day off in August to mark the birth of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), one of the most significant dates on the Islamic calendar. The exact date of the UAE public holiday will be confirmed by the authorities closer to the time but we have an estimated date.
Per UAE holiday regulations, this occasion always falls on the 12th day of Rabi’ Al-Awwal in the Hijri calendar.
Based on current estimates, the actual date of the occasion looks likely to be Tuesday, August 25. That said, the day off itself may actually be given a day sooner, on Monday, August 24.
Why the shift? UAE rules allow most public holidays (Eid being the exception) to be moved to sit right at the start or end of the working week. If this happens in August, residents could be looking at a three-day weekend once it’s added to the usual Dubai days off.
As always with Islamic dates, the exact day depends on the sighting of the moon, and official confirmation usually comes right as Rabi’ Al-Awwal begins. That said, in the past, authorities have sometimes announced the holiday for both sectors ahead of the moon sighting confirmation.

- Islamic New Year: Monday June 7
