Headed to Dubai International this weekend? This may affect your plans.

Those driving to the airport may experience some delays due to roadworks set to take place at the junction of Marrakesh Street and Airport Road next to Emirates headquarters this weekend.

ALRIGHT, SO WHEN IS IT EXACTLY?

The roadworks will start on Saturday, September 24 at 2am, and will last for eight hours.

So, it’s not too bad.

Luckily for us, the roadworks won’t coincide with the predicted upcoming public holiday next week.

So if you’ve booked yourself a quick getaway, fret not. You should be able to make your flight on time.

If you’re unsure as to which junction we’re talking about, here’s a pic (the junction is within the red square):

HOW DO I GET AROUND THE ROADWORKS?

During the roadworks, traffic will be diverted along a short detour, which can be seen in the picture below:

WHAT ARE THE ROADWORKS FOR?

They’re part of a massive upgrade programme of strategic junctions along Airport Road, designed to accommodate extra traffic resulting from Dubai International’s continued growth.

Speaking about how the new roadworks would help, Richard Talian, EVP of Strategy & Development at Dubai Airports said, “This roadwork is a critical element of our DXB Plus programme which is designed to boost our capacity at DXB from 90 million passengers per year to 118 million passengers while improving service.”
