It might be a good time to check your bank statements…

Some HSBC customers in the UAE have been overcharged as the result of a technical issue.

The glitch related to Visa transactions that took place on December 2, with affected customers being charged up to four times more than the correct price.

Several customers took to Twitter to report the unusual transactions.

One customer said more than Dhs800 was taken out of their account for a transaction that had cost just over Dhs200.

Someone else paid Dhs300 for a Dhs100 Talabat order that came out of their HSBC account.

Others reported being charged in US dollars instead of dirhams.

Affected customers received a text message from HSBC on Friday saying the bank was in the process of rectifying the problem.

“Rest assured, we will reverse the amount and any incorrect fees or charges you may have incurred as a result of this issue.”

HSBC has also posted a statement on its social media pages about the issue.
