8 things to do in Dubai this week
A ladies’ day, a Lock Stock foodie challenge and Lucky Voice throws a nostalgic quiz night…
There’s a fun week ahead across the city, and we’ve rounded up something for everyone. From free drinks at a ladies’ day on the Palm, to an outdoor market under the Burj, and the final few days of a stunning Cirque Du Soleil show, there’s heaps to pack in to the week.
Here are eight things to do in Dubai this week…
Sunday January 14
1. Cool off at a ladies’ day on the Palm
Partnering with SIN events, Nasimi Beach has a new ladies day every Sunday. From 12pm to 4pm ladies can enjoy complimentary pool and beach access, free flowing beverages for four hours and their choice from a selection of a lunch dish for Dhs105.

2. Spend the evening with legends at La Cantine
The legends series at La Cantine continues this Monday. Each week, the venue plays tribute to a different musical legend, with the venue decorated with portrait pictures of the artists, lyrics of famous songs hand-written on the walls, a DJ spinning the legends top hits, and a themed menu for the occasion. This week, it’s dedicated to George Michael.

3. Test your 90s knowledge with a themed quiz night
This bi-monthly 90 quiz night pays homage to everything old-school this Monday at Lucky Voice. Hosted by Lucky Voice’s resident MC, the Fresh Prince of LV, it’s a fun night out that will bring out the competitive side of all 90s music fans. Teams can be up to 8 people, and there’s happy hour deals until midnight, a Dhs99 deal for unlimited tacos or pizza, and some great prizes to be won.

4. Take on a foodie-challenge with a kick
Lock Stock & Barrel is the latest spot in town to introduce a foodie challenge, but an ordinary flatbread challenge this is not. They’ve created the ‘world’s hottest flatbread’ – and they’re inviting limited participants to take it on. Complete with boneless wings, pickled Jalapeno’s, habanero relish, pepperoni, fresh chili, coriander and topped with a ‘deadly’ sauce and habanero ranch, there’s prizes including a Dhs1000 bar tab for the challenger who finishes first. If you just fancy tucking in to one, it’s Dhs69 on the menu at both branches this Tuesday.
Lock Stock & Barrel, Rixos Premium JBR and Grand Millenium, Barsha Heights, 10pm, Tuesday January 16. Tel: (04) 392 7120. More info on website
5. See an avatar-themed Cirque du Soleil
It’s your last chance to catch the stunning Avatar-themed touring Cirque Du Soleil show Toruk – The First Flight at Dubai World Trade Centre which wraps up this Tuesday. It’s all about the philosophies in the Avatar film that focus on a harmonious co-existence with nature, and it comes complete with some epic stunts.
