It’s free and it keeps you fit, so what’s not to like about the daily yoga classes taking place at Dubai Internet City Amphitheatre? Ah, they start at 5.30am.

That’s right, Friends Of Yoga (friendsofyogaglobal.org) has launched the latest in their Dubai-wide free sessions, operating seven days a week, and they want people of all levels of experience to come along.

The free daily yoga sessions run for an hour between 5.30am and 6.30am every single day of the year and are the latest successful arm from one of the region’s longest-running centres, with the group having been in operation for almost 25 years. There are currently seven centres in Dubai, with four more in Sharjah.

The syllabus is designed scientifically by the co-founders to include physical postures, breath control, meditation and laughter during the hour, with a heavy focus put by the group in welcoming anyone from novice to veteran.

Those interested in taking part need to bring their own yoga mat and wear loose, light and comfortable clothing, respecting the local custom. FOY also suggest participants come on an empty stomach, with at least three to four hours since their last meal. There is also designated areas for ladies and gents.

The launch of the classes coincides nicely with the recent opening of yApparel (yapparel.com) in Jumeirah. Meeting the demand in the region, yApparel stocks everything from mats, clothing and bags, and if that’s not enough to tempt fitness fanatics, the products are eco-friendly keeping environmental impact to a minimum. The new store is at Jumeirah Centre, Jumeirah Beach Road, and open daily 10am to 10pm.
