Biggest moment? Deep Crates has thrown some epic parties including the first Do-Over in the region, which Jazzy Jeff called ‘the best party on the planet’, and has hosted legends such as Horace Andy of Massive Attack. However, our biggest moments have been those smaller nights where the residents just blew the roof off.

What sets it apart? Our knowledge of music and passion for the DJ art form. Lobito was chosen to represent Afrika Bambaataa and Zulu Nation in the region; and we have a deeper knowledge of records and the culture than anyone else out here. We were pushing vinyl digging culture before any other night, as well as hosting the first b-boy battles, aerosol art and street art exhibitions.

Describe your clubbers: A mix of people with the common identity of being open-minded, and cool party people who wouldn’t be seen dead at Dubai’s endless VVIP venues.

Tell us about your residents: Lobito Brigante, aka Break DJ Lobito, and Frezidante, aka Frez. The Cartel started with Lobito and Frezidante holding down the original Deep Crates nights at Casa Latina. Lobito is a seasoned veteran in hip-hop culture who has warmed up for legendary acts since 2005. He’s known as one of the best in the world at spinning b-boy breaks, and is a crate digger and party rocking DJ bar-none. His collection of over 20,000 rare vinyl records speaks volumes, and he has earned respect from legendary crews such as the Beat Junkies, Invisibl Skrtch Pklz as well as praise from veterans like King Britt, Aloe Blacc and Public Enemy. Frezidante is a pioneer of aerosol art (graffiti) in the region as well as a deep record digger. He is the definition of what underground stands for – low-profile, killer collection, great mixing skills and deep knowledge of music spanning multiple genres. His sets have consistently torn the roof off at Deep Crates nights and he’s always unearthing party gems that leave other DJs guessing.
