Comedian Josh Widdicombe has been announced as the special support act for Jack Dee’s stand-up comedy show in Dubai.

Hot on the heels of Kevin Bridges’ successful one-man show in December, Dee confirmed his arrival in March before today’s announcement that one of Britain’s best young stars will also take to the stage at World Trade Centre on March 19.

A star of TV and radio in his homeland, the 31-year-old has previously supported the likes of Michael McIntyre, Ricky Gervais’ partner in crime Stephen Merchant and Alan Carr.

Josh’s first major steps towards the mainstream came in 2008 when he earned a spot in the final of the coveted ‘So You Think You’re Funny’ competition at Edinburgh’s renowned Fringe Festival. By 2011 he was performing his own solo show, for which he was nominated at Best Newcomer in the Edinburgh Comedy Awards, a year after claiming the top award at Leicester’s Comedy Festival.

He has regularly appeared on British television panel shows like Mock The Week, 8 Out Of 10 Cats, The Last Leg and Have I Got News For You.

More recently, Widdicombe took on presenting roles on XFM and BBC Radio 5 Live.

Speaking last year, he revealed that Dee, who as mentioned earlier will be in Dubai in March, is one of Widdicombe’s idols. In an interview with the Independent newspaper in the UK, he said: “The thing about stand-up is that you end up meeting your idols. I knew Jack a bit, so I cheekily asked him if he’d like to be in my new show and he said yes. He’s a proper character actor and he was mind-blowingly brilliant. The part was initially based on an ex-landlord who had a big picture of himself in my flat that I’d wake up to every morning, but Jack made the part his own.”

Meanwhile, another comedy announcement was made this week when DUCTAC confirmed the return of South African funny man Trevor Noah, for a run of performances at the venue between March 25 and 28. Tickets for the shows go on sale at 9am on January 29.
