It looks like Jumeirah at Etihad Towers are going to need to get the builders in for some repair work.

One of Abu Dhabi’s most recognisable hotels suffers some serious damage from a flying car in the new trailer for Furious 7, the latest movie from action star Vin Diesel.

Several scenes for the flick, the seventh in the ‘Fast And The Furious’ series, were shot here in the nation’s capital. The new trailer, which made its debut during last night’s NFL Super Bowl in the US, features shots of several of the main cast members hanging out in our home city, plus footage of Emirates Palace, Etihad Towers and parts of the emirate’s desert landscape in the Western Region.

Diesel’s character, street racer Dominic Toretto, manages to drive a sports car between the two Etihad Towers skyscrapers in an over-the-top action scene from the flick, which also stars Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, Michelle Rodrigues, Kurt Russell, Tyrese Gibson and Jason Statham.

Early estimates from the States claim that more than 100 million people watched American Football’s grand finale, which saw the New England Patriots defeat the Seattle Seahawks 28-24.

It’s of course not the first film to be shot in Abu Dhabi last year. Last week, we brought you news of Baby, a Bollywood film in cinemas now that was features footage captured in the capital, and the new Star Wars movie, The Force Awakens, also filmed scenes here last year, with the Western Region’s sand dunes doubling up for Luke Skywalker’s home planet Tatooine.

Furious 7 is expected to be released in UAE cinemas on April 3.
