Are you a serial snapper? Facebook fanatic? We have very good news for you…

Data is expensive in Dubai. Not all of us can afford to splash out to check our Snapchat in the supermarket queue.

Well, soon we might not have to.

Wi-Fi UAE, a free internet service launched by Smart Dubai and du last year has spread from 200 locations across Dubai to 300, including the emirate’s public transport network.

As well as Wi-Fi UAE, users have access to Wi-Fi Premium, a paid service that allows users to access unrestricted upload and download speed.

*New Dubai taxi drivers will have to pass an English test*

Wi-Fi premium costs Dhs20 for six hours of access over three days, or Dhs50 for 20 hours of access over seven days.

And by the end of next year, Wi-Fi UAE and Premium plans to cover 90 per cent of Dubai.

“We hope to see the UAE offering free Wi-Fi once the scheme has been tried and tested in Dubai,” said Aisha bin Bashr, the director general of Smart Dubai, at Gitex Technology Week according to The National.

“We offer 512 kilobytes per second [with Wi-Fi UAE], which allows people to connect to social media and use WhatsApp, but you will not be able to watch videos or technology which requires higher speeds.”

WAIT, THERE’S FREE INTERNET IN TAXIS NOW?

Love internet on the go? Love fancy taxis? Well, the two just met,

News of Dubai’s emirate-wide internet service comes just days after the Dubai Taxi Corporation (DTC) and the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) introduced free Wi-Fi on board their limousine taxis.

Oh, and if you don’t tend to splash out on limousine taxis, fret not. The free Wi-Fi will eventually be added to all DTC taxis.
