If your inner Captain Jack Sparrow yearns for a morning on the ocean wave, book an early morning kayak with Arabian Outdoor, with trips on offer around the Burj Al Arab, Dubai Marina, Ajman Mangroves and more. Private kayak trips are available for two to four people and should be arranged in advance, especially at weekends. They reopen for business in mid-November.

Both novices and experienced riders alike will love the horse riding on offer at Al Sahra Equestrian Centre, which takes groups or individuals riding through the desert on a 90-minute hack. You’ll see the sun rise over the Dubai skyline and hopefully catch a glimpse of a desert fox or perhaps a gazelle returning home after a night foraging in the dunes.
