We tried the Sunday roast at The Barrel in Dubai Creek Harbour – here’s why it’s worth crossing the bridge for

Yorkshire puds, proper gravy and a bottomless option: this neighbourhood gastrobar is quietly doing one of the best-value Sunday roasts in Dubai.

There’s no shortage of Sunday roasts in Dubai, but finding one that nails the brief – crispy potatoes, a Yorkshire pudding with actual height, gravy you’d happily drink – without the Dhs250-plus price tag of the city’s hotel dining rooms is harder than it should be. Enter The Barrel, the laid-back gastrobar at Vida Creek Beach in Dubai Creek Harbour, which has just made a very strong case for becoming your new Sunday ritual.

If the name rings a bell, that’s because we reviewed The Barrel earlier this month and came away impressed – our verdict was that the newly licensed venue gets the neighbourhood gastropub formula right, from the barrels above the bar that give the space its identity to a menu built around comfort food and generosity. Now, its Sunday roast is giving us a reason to go back.

What’s on The Barrel’s Sunday roast menu?

Served every Sunday from 12pm to 5pm, the menu keeps things classic and confident. You’ve got three ways in: slow-roasted beef (Dhs135), roasted chicken breast (Dhs125) or baked crispy salmon (Dhs125) – each a generous 180g serving, so nobody’s leaving hungry.

The beef is the headliner, slow-roasted and carved properly, but it’s the supporting cast that seals it. Every plate arrives loaded with crispy roasted potatoes, seasonal root vegetables, a traditional Yorkshire pudding and rich gravy, plus a homemade horseradish cream that gives the whole thing a welcome kick. It’s the kind of unfussy, comforting plate that tastes like a Sunday back home – just with a view of the Creek instead of drizzle.

Bottomless drinks in Dubai Creek Harbour from Dhs199

Here’s where The Barrel separates itself from the pack. Alongside the roast, you can add the newly launched Bottomless Barrel package: three hours of unlimited drinks from Dhs199 for the house selection, or Dhs299 if you fancy the premium pour. Celebrating something? A bottle of Moët & Chandon can be added for Dhs300 – a genuinely rare price for bubbles in this city.

It turns a leisurely family lunch into something closer to a low-key day brunch, minus the queues, the noise and the eye-watering bill. With the roast running until 5pm and the drinks package available from midday, it’s built for long, lazy afternoons that stretch into golden hour on the Creek.

Inside The Barrel: a pet-friendly gastropub at Vida Creek Beach

This is a neighbourhood spot in the best sense – relaxed, friendly and family-welcome by day, livelier by night. On our recent visit, we found the interiors warm and lived-in, with rich woods, soft lighting and cosy corners that work just as well for a quick drink as a long lunch, while the service was genuinely welcoming, with a team happy to steer you towards house favourites and suggest a pairing from the extensive wine and beer list. Bonus for dog owners: the terrace is pet-friendly, so your four-legged friend can join the Sunday plans too (once the weather allows).

If you’ve been meaning to explore Dubai Creek Harbour’s growing dining scene, this is an easy excuse: waterfront strolls before, roast and refills after. And if the roast wins you over, our full review has the intel on what to order when you return for dinner – the Wiener schnitzel and sticky date toffee pudding both earned high praise.

Is The Barrel’s Sunday roast worth it?

A proper roast from Dhs125 in one of Dubai’s prettiest new neighbourhoods, with a bottomless upgrade that undercuts most of the city’s brunch scene? Sundays sorted.
