To say that Beauty And The Beast is a classic is a bit of an understatement. From October 30, the show transfers from New York’s famous Broadway to Abu Dhabi. Based on the 1991 Disney film, the show ranks as one of the longest-running and highest-grossing Broadway performances of all time.

Ahead of the run, we spoke with Belle, played by Hilary Maiberger.

There are so many wonderful elements to Belle’s character. She is strong, hopeful, loving, and has a sense of adventure. She’s a typical teenage girl, trying to figure out how she fits into the world. That’s one of the amazing things about playing her – I was a version of her when I was 16 years old, so I can relate to her and I hope others can too. She is a strong woman and I love to represent that on stage.

I was ten years old when my mum took me and my two sisters to see Beauty And The Beast on stage in Los Angeles. It was my first musical experience and I loved everything about it. And now it’s so exciting for me to be able to play the lead role in this production years later.

The cast gets tired of flying around the world on tour but we never get tired of performing. This is such a rare opportunity so we make the most of it. It is great to be able to spend a few weeks in these fantastic destinations, and be exposed to all these different cultures.

Every city we perform in is different. Sometimes audiences are loud and engaging, other times they are quieter. We are always excited to arrive to a new city and see what the audience response to this original Broadway production will be. We hope the audience in Abu Dhabi like it.
