Local reports are saying that Hollywood A-lister Brad Pitt will be filming a movie in Abu Dhabi, with shooting expected to start in September.

The new film, War Machine, will see Pitt star in the lead role of the satirical comedy about America’s recent war in Afghanistan.

The story is inspired by the best-selling book The Operators: The Wild and Terrifying Inside Story of America’s War in Afghanistan by Michael Hastings and tells the tale of the “rock star” four-star army general Stanley McChrystal, who was in charge of command during the war in Afghanistan.

To be directed by Aussie director and writer David Michod, the film will be released on Netflix as well as in select theatres next year.

Speaking of the story, Michod said, “I’m humbled to be making a big, bold movie about the whole sprawling, complex, cumbersome and crazy machinery of modern war and the many lives it touches.”

The announcement comes as a couple of big-budget international films have already signed on to filming in the UAE. Bollywood action-adventure film Dishoom will start shooting in October of this year here in the capital and will star John Abraham, Varun Dhawan and Jacqueline Fernandez.

And just across the road, sci-fi film Star Trek Beyond will begin shooting in Dubai in October of this year.
