Yes, the blue screen is gone. We don’t know much more other than it’s working, but we’ll keep you updated…

The cable channel BeIN sports, which is based in Qatar, was blocked on UAE TVs (even for paying subscribers) just over a month ago.

And this weekend subscribers have noticed that the channel is back. We’re awaiting official comment and will let you know when we hear more.

BeIN Sports’ unblocking in the UAE comes on the same weekend that Qatar’s Emir, Sheikh Tamim, has spoken out for the first time publicly saying he’s willing to talk and open up a dialogue to resolve the Qatar blockade.

In his televised speech on Friday he said Qatar is willing to correct its “error”.

Also, this week Qatar amended its “anti-terror law”, a move that has been praised by UAE officials.

“The Qatari decree to amend the anti-terrorism law is a positive step to deal seriously with the 59 terrorists,” said Anwar Gargash, the UAE’s minister of state for foreign affairs, via Twitter.

Remember, the beIN Sports packages across both Etisalat and Du’s cable offerings are charged at a premium as they hold the exclusive rights to highly coveted sports tournaments such as the UEFA Champions League, English Premier League, Spanish La Liga, Formula 1 Grand Prix, NBA Finals and many more.

This is what subscribers have seen all month, until this weekend.

The English Premier League is due to kick off next month, so many football fans will be hoping the unblocking is permanent.
