Dubai’s first French fine dining spot is shutting its doors after 29 years…

It was open for almost three decades, but Le Classique in Emirates Golf Club is shutting its doors at the end of July, joining The Ivy, Qbara, Rivington Grill and Mango Tree on the list of Dubai favourites that have had to shut their doors.

The old-school institution is known for its secluded outdoor terrace and was serving up snails and roux before celeb’ chefs and international restaurants took over the city. In fact, it was in operation before even most of the city existed (when Emirates Golf Club was marooned in the middle of the desert). But, sadly, it seems the stiff competition in the market just got too much for them.

This photo shows how Emirates Golf Club – and Le Classique – was one of the first things to open in the part of Dubai that’s now so built up.

Long-time Dubai expats will definitely know the restaurant, and the good news for those wanting to relive the restaurant’s glory days is that they’re doing a set menu for the rest of the month that stars their top dishes from the past three decades.

The Emirates Golf Club restaurant will serve up a five-course set menu called ‘Au Revoir’ (*sob*) that costs Dhs275 per person for food, and Dhs405 with house beverages and wine.

The menu will feature foie gras poêlé, pineapple chutney and crispy quail; Chef François’ French onion soup, lobster thermidor and even crepe Suzette with peach melba. Remember, the dress code at the French spot is smart elegant, so no flip flops or shorts.

What’s going to take Le Classsique’s place? Well, we don’t yet know, but we do know that a new food concept will be taking its space, and we’ll definitely keep you updated. Remember, a Roseleaf Cafe has just opened in Emirates Golf Club’s fitness centre too.

For the rest of the month, Le Classique will be serving it all-star menu Sunday 12pm to 3pm & 7pm to 12am; Tuesday 12pm to 3pm, Wednesday 12pm to 3pm and 7pm to midnight, Thursday 12pm to 3pm and 7pm to midnight and Friday 7pm to midnight.
