Say it ain’t so…

Legendary Dubai bar and rock club The Music Room has announced that it will be permanently shuttering its doors on Saturday 30 September 2017.

Located adjacent to the Majestic Hotel in Bur Dubai, the venue has played host to live performances from noted international and regional acts such as the Proclaimers, Black Lips, Nouvelle Vague, Dam Funk and Mashrou’ Leila and many others over its 12-year lifespan.

It was also lauded for providing a platform for countless UAE bands to get a leg up in the local scene as one of the few remaining mid-capacity venues where they could perform.

In a statement regarding the closure, Alex and Fay Economides of M Management Company, the faces behind the brand, said: “We are proud of what we achieved, we built a stage together from scratch and it quickly became a melting pot for awesome live performances from around the globe”.

“In the last 4.5 years I hosted more than 240 shows and you can see throughout the years how it evolved and simply rediscovered local talent, it was an open house for new gigs and music legends.” added Carlo Javakhia, General Manager of M Management Company.

A true institutional pillar of Dubai’s nightlife circuit, the 700 pax capacity venue always drew a lively, dedicated crowd and wasn’t afraid to challenge conventions by booking acts that were on the fringes of musical taste.

Suffice to say, come October 1st there will a gaping hole in Dubai’s music scene where The Music Room used to sit.

We leave you with this clip of UK/UAE band Flamingods performing at the venue in 2014, perfectly capturing the spirit of everything it stood for. It will be sorely missed.
