The legendary DJ is headlining Zero Gravity’s day to night festival this Friday, and we caught up with him ahead of the gig…

As the season starts to draw to a close, there’s no shortage of artists heading to some of Dubai’s top al fresco venues, but one we’ve been counting down to is this Friday, as award-winning DJ Fatboy Slim returns to Dubai for an all-day dance music festival on the sand at Zero Gravity.

Ahead of his gig this Friday, we caught up with the famous DJ to talk music, new residencies and which Dubai restaurant he can’t wait to check out…

What’s On: You’ve been to Dubai before, including performing at Zero Gravity in 2016, what is it you love about performing in Dubai?

Fatboy Slim: I love the abandon of the crowd. It feels like many people save up for a big night out and that is what we get. Escape and abandon are the names of the game.

WO: Where’s your favourite place to perform around the world?

FBS: Brazil always has a special place in my heart. Such beauty, soul and a very large amount of abandon.

WO: Where will we find you hanging out if you’ve got some free time in Dubai?

FBS: Last time I was there I visited a wonderful street art project called ‘Dubai Walls’ on JBR. I will be searching out if there is any new stuff down there. Also, hoping to check out Nathan Outlaw’s fish restaurant…

WO: What are three things you couldn’t live without?

FBS: My children, music, sunshine

WO: What can we expect from you in 2018?

FBS: I’m helping with the soundtrack to a film by Julien Temple, starting a new residency in Ibiza and have a big Elrow event in London in August.

WO: Is there anyone you’d still like to share the stage with?

FBS: I’ve worked in the studio with Bootsy Collins a lot but never been on stage with him…
