Immerse yourself in movies, TV box sets and 360-degree videos whilst waiting to board your flight…

Virtual reality is poised to be the future of entertainment. Imagine being able to sit on the sidelines of a UEFA Champions League final, or front and centre at a Foo Fighters concert, all without ever having to leave your living room. Ok, so we’re not quite there yet, but there are still plenty of cool experiences to be had in VR.

This is precisely why Emirates, Dubai’s numero uno airline, has started rolling out trials of virtual reality headsets in its Business Class lounge.

These Skylights theatre headsets offer a fixed-screen with a wide-angle field of view for both 3D and 2D content in high definition.

The content available is a mix of 3D and 2D movies, TV box sets, documentaries and 360-degree videos. Movies on offer include: Alien: Covenant; Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Boss Baby, as well as documentaries such as Cosmos and Planet Earth.

The headsets are free to use, although you will need access to the Business Class lounge in Concourse B to try them out. They will be on trial there until the end of April, when they will then be moved to the First Class lounge in Concourse B for further testing throughout May.

If the trial period goes well, Emirates plans to roll the headsets out to all of its lounges. No word on whether we’ll be seeing them on board an Emirates flight in the near future, but here’s hoping.
