Music, foodie festivals, free coffee and the return of GITEX…

We’re heading into the first week of October, and with Dubai cooling down nicely, we’re planning as many outdoor activities as we can. But it’s not just al fresco adventures to get involved in this week, there’s also music from rap stars and Latino legends, the return of a huge electronics show, and dinner deals at some top restaurants.

Here are 8 things to do in Dubai this week.

Sunday September 30

1. Party hard with an American rap star

American rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine must be enjoying his first trip to perform in Dubai, so much so that not only did he perform at Base twice over the weekend, he’s also set to headline at 1OAK tonight. It’s ladies’ night too, so girls can take advantage of unlimited drinks all night.

1OAK, JW Marriott Marquis, Business Bay, 10pm to 3am, Sunday September 30. Tel: (052) 881 8888.

2. Dine for less at some top restaurants

Atlantis Restaurant Week is in full swing, with set menus available at Dhs150 or Dhs350 from September 27 to October 6 at the resort. Lebanese Ayamna, Italian Ronda Locatelli and Gordon Ramsay’s Bread Street Kitchen are serving up a unique set menu for Dhs150. Fine dining restaurants Seafire Steakhouse, Nobu and underwater restaurant Ossiano offer menus at Dhs350.

3. See a world class Latino star

As part of his 50th anniversary tour, Spanish crooner and celebrated Latin artist Julio Iglesias will perform two concerts at Dubai Opera this October 1 and 2. Widely regarded as one of the most successful European artists in history, Iglesias’ career began in the late 1960’s. Over the last fifty years he has sold more than 300 million records, produced 82 albums and recorded hits in more than 12 languages.

4. Enjoy oysters for Dhs5 at Sean Connolly at Dubai Opera

Sean Connolly at Dubai Opera is launching a month-long Shucktober festival this month. As well as a special menu of fresh seafood, raw specials and a dedicated Oyster menu, perch up at the Pearl Bar between 8pm and 9pm every day, and treat yourself to some freshly shucked oysters for Dhs5.

5. Get your hands on a free coffee

Electronics show GITEX is back from October 2 to 6, with some pretty sweet deals to be snapped up on a variety of gadgets. October’s event will take place at Dubai World Trade Centre. Tickets are now available, with entry costing Dhs20 for each day of the event. As well as bargains on the latest and greatest tech, you can also hear some of the region’s top techsperts share their tips & tricks, see shiny new electronics being unpacked in a special “unboxing” area (yep, we’re addicted to those YouTube videos too), and even learn how to fly a drone.
