This is good news…

Soon even more tourists and residents will be able to stay connected on the go, as the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and network provider du have signed an agreement to install free WiFi in 10,000 additional taxis across Dubai.

Announced during Gitex Technology Week, details on when the agreement will be rolled out were not given. Speaking to The National, Anthony Shiner, du’s chief digital lifestyle and innovation officer said that it would happen “fairly soon”.

It’s also expected that it will be introduced in phases.

“You can’t launch all 10,000 cars with Wi-Fi overnight, you have to learn how different people are using the service,” Shiner explained.

“If you’re travelling from the airport to your hotel, for example, you will probably want to use the Wi-Fi for checking in on your emails and messages.”

Free WiFi was first introduced in 500 Dubai Airport taxis in December 2016, with a further 700 taxis installed with LED screens and free WiFi last year.
