A look inside What’s On Nightlife Awards’ winning bar…

What do you get when you combine a bowling alley, arcade games, soft play centre and a restaurant and bar? As it turns out, you get Wavehouse, a brilliant fun-for-all-the-family entertainment venue.

Wavehouse at Atlantis, The Palm absolutely oozes fun, but with a cool vibe, with neon lights, concrete flooring, dark woods and metal combining to create a distinct industrial-chic aesthetic.

Upstairs, the arcade room is bursting with retro classics alongside some high-tech VR simulators. For an extra splash of fun, guests are also invited to try their hand (feet?) on the artificial wave machine. Don your swimwear and pop up like a pro as you tackle seven tonnes of water, per second, shooting out from under you.

Outside on the terrace, it’s a totally relaxed beach-bar atmosphere. Most people are still in their beachwear from a day at the pool, so you’ll need to dress accordingly.

Meanwhile, the food is the sort of comfort food that you’d expect from such a relaxed spot with great options to pick and share across the table, whilst whiling away the afternoon.

Their loaded nachos (Dhs60) are done right with mounds of crispy tortilla crisps, dollops of sour cream, guacamole, salsa, tangy jalapenos and cheese. Other tasty sharing plates consist of delicious chicken wings (Dhs50), deep fried babybels (Dhs45) oozing with melted cheese, and crispy fried devil’s whitebait (Dhs50). Each comes with number of delicious accompaniments such as smoked ketchup, saffron aioli or siracha mayo.

Wavehouse is a welcome change from formal restaurants and bars in the city. It should be your go-to spot for letting your hair down and having fun. A worthy What’s On winner indeed.

Wavehouse, Atlantis The Palm, daily 12pm to 1am. Tel: (04) 426 2626. atlantisthepalm.com/wavehouse
