Heading to a FIFA World Cup 2022 match and wondering what the Qatar travel requirements are? Take note, that all World Cup fans, regardless of their vaccination status, must show proof of a negative Covid-19 test.

According to Qatar2022, ‘all visitors aged six and above must present a negative result from a PCR test taken within 48 hours before their departure or from a rapid antigen test taken in the 24 hours before arriving.’ The travel requirement was announced by the Qatar Ministry of Public Health.

The ministry added that the test result will need to be submitted at the airport check-in counter. The test should be conducted at a medical centre in the country of origin for it to be valid. Results from a rapid antigen tests will not be accepted.

Children under six are exempt from submitting a negative Covid-19 test result before departure to Qatar.

Do note, visitors who don’t have a ticket will not be able to enter the country during the tournament according to officials. A Hayya card, otherwise known as a Fan ID, is a personalised document that is issued by FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and will be required by every single person attending any of the matches. Do we need to quarantine?

When Qatar announced its travel requirements, it stated that international visitors arriving in the country will not be required to undergo quarantine, regardless of their vaccination status or country or origin.

After visitors arrive in Qatar, there is no requirement to take a Covid-19 test. However, in the event that you do test positive for Covid-19 while in Qatar, you will be required to isolate yourself according to the Ministry of Public Health guidelines.

When travellers head back to their destination, they are urged to check and follow the requirement for their destination country and follow the specific Covid-19 travel protocol.
