The upscale Japanese restaurant was previously housed inside Billionaire Dubai…

It’s an award-winning, contemporary Japanese restaurant that’s consistently recognised among the best in London, and soon, you’ll be able to dine at Sumosan in Dubai. The upscale Japanese restaurant is set to open in The Dubai EDITION in Downtown in the coming months, and we’re already drooling.

If the name sounds familiar, you may remember that Sumosan was housed within Billionaire Dubai in the Taj Hotel, when it was still known as Billionaire Mansion. The restaurant chain also made its way to Doha in 2021, and opened in Riyadh’s Laysen Valley in August 2022.

The renowned dining concept, which was founded in Moscow in 1997 by Alexander Wolkow and his daughter Janina, is now found in additional locations in Courchevel, Montenegro and Berlin. It will also soon add a restaurant in Bahrain to its ever-growing roster of cities.

The brand is celebrated for high-quality sushi, sashimi, and an innovative Japanese cuisine menu created by Executive chef Bubker Belkhit. While we’re not yet sure what the Dubai menu will look like, we’re hoping to see beloved classics such as lobster salad, tuna and truffle rolls, and salmon rice pizza all feature as part of the Dubai offering.

The brand aesthetic is typically modern, minimalistic and sleek, so we feel it’s a perfect fit for the contemporary aesthetic of The Dubai EDITION.

When it opens, Sumosan Dubai will join four existing restaurants and bars in the elegant Downtown hotel. The impressive drinking and dining offering already includes Inti, a Peruvian rooftop hotspot; Thia, a stunning poolside lounge; elegant Italian, Duomo; and the innovative Ergo, the first bar from master mixologist Jimmy Barrat.
