Good Friday: Churches across the UAE announce temporary closures
UAE churches have announced temporary closures starting Good Friday
Churches across Dubai have announced the suspension of in-person services starting Good Friday, April 3, following directives from UAE government to ensure public safety and community wellbeing.
Churchgoers are urged to remain at home and not visit churches, along with masses, including Good Friday masses being moved online for the time being. St Mary’s Catholic Church, Dubai announced that both of their Good Friday services would take place online via the Church’s Youtube channel.

The St Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Jebel Ali has also cancelled masses for the foreseeable future, with no announcements being made to move them online. “Parishioners are requested to refrain from visiting the Church in the interest of safety and community well-being”, the statement reads.
The Mar Thoma Parish in Jebel Ali has announced that all gatherings will be held virtually, with timings and access details set to be shared with members shortly. In a message to the community, parish leaders encouraged worshippers to “keep the whole country and our surroundings in prayer,” calling for safety, peace and calm across the region.
Meanwhile, at St. Thomas Orthodox Cathedral, all services – including Good Friday observances – will also take place online. Worshippers are advised to attend virtually, with service timings remaining unchanged. Meanwhile, St. Mina Coptic Orthodox Church in Jebel Ali has announced that Friday’s liturgy on April 3 has been cancelled, along with all other services and activities until further notice.
