Dubai Fitness Challenge 2018: What's new this year
It’s kicking off this weekend with a huge carnival complete with free fitness classes and a huge fireworks display…
The Dubai Fitness Challenge is set to make its eagerly anticipated return this weekend.
The fitness initiative, launched by HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, encourages residents to commit to 30 minutes of exercise every day for 30 days.
Taking place from October 26 to November 24, it’s kicking off with an opening weekend carnival at Dubai Festival City. There will be a main stage where you can take part in free fitness classes, as well as plenty on offer for kids, such as climbing and trampoline areas, inflatable assault courses, kids’ yoga, basketball and even bootcamp. There will also be a huge fireworks display.

Just like last year, there will be a whole host of free activities you can take part in, such as walking, team sports, paddle-boarding, yoga, cycling and more. But there will be some awesome new additions at this year’s event that will make it even bigger and better than before.
This year are five fitness villages, which will be located all over Dubai. Here’s what we know about the villages:
DIFC Fitness Village
This village will feature over 300 free fitness classes on the main stage. Participants will also be able to visit during their lunch breaks to use the latest equipment from Technogym, like interactive bikes and treadmills. Golfers will be able to practise their swing on a high-tech golf simulator, and there will be teqball tables for football fans.
DMCC Park Fitness Village
You’ll be able to check out over 400 free fitness classes here, and take part in team and adrenaline sports with tournaments taking place on specially created football fields, volleyball and basketball courts. Families can enjoy the Just Play Adrenaline Village, which features a gymnastics zone, one-on-one adults ninja warrior course, acrobatics workshops, and a bouldering zone.
Kite Beach Fitness Village
This village will host over 400 free fitness classes, as well as a daily “aqua” class. There will be a watersports zone for kayaking, stand up paddle boarding, and The City Swim on October 27, which will feature a range of courses.
Palm Jumeirah Fitness Village
Running clubs will be located here, as well as over 300 free fitness classes on the main stage. There will be pre and post-natal classes for new mums and mums-to-be, as well as a Glow Run – a 3.2km course with themed lighting and interactive audio that will create a virtual rainforest experience.
Al Khawaneej Walk Fitness Village
You’ll be able to join a cycle club at Quranic Park, which will let you rent adult and children’s bikes for free. There will also be special ladies’ only times. The park will be lit up at night so you can enjoy night rides, too.
Sounds cool, right? For more details, you can visit the Dubai Fitness Challenge website, or download the app from the app store. For now, better start stretching for all the fitness we’ll be doing in the coming weeks…
