The Expo 2020 site just reached another major milestone
The final piece of the Al Wasl dome has now been placed…
As we edge nearer and nearer to the one year until Expo 2020 mark, the site has reached another major milestone. The construction of the dome that encircles Al Wasl Plaza, the heart of the Expo 2020 site, has been completed.
After months of planning, the huge steel crown of the dome has been successfully positioned at the top, in what Expo 2020 organisers have described as “an inspiring feat of precision engineering”.
Standing at a total height of 67.5 metres and spanning no less than 130 metres, the architectural marvel encloses a space of 724,000 cubic metres.

So what exactly will it be used for?
During Expo 2020, Al Wasl dome will be the largest 360-degree projection surface in the world, with visuals being beamed both inside and outside onto the fabric surface.
Fitted with state-of-the-art projectors, the dome will host performances from A-list performers and will also be the chosen location for major celebrations for Diwali, Chinese New Year and other annual events.
Expo 2020 Dubai runs for six months, between 20 October 2020 and 10 April 2021 and expects to welcome 25 million visits. For 173 days, it will be the World’s Greatest Show, and many of the 60-plus live events per day will be held in Al Wasl Plaza.
