We’re confident What’s On readers aren’t the kind of people who’d go sunbathing without applying sunscreen, even with that slight drop in temperature at the turn of the year. But if you do happen to get burnt you’re going to need a treatment that can repair your cooked skin.

The Sheraton Abu Dhabi Hotel & Resort has The Magic Touch, a 60-minute treatment, which started with cooling aloe vera gel applied all over the body. Next, we were wrapped in plastic and towels and given a head massage for 30 minutes. The gel was showered off and replaced with aloe vera moisturiser. After another massage, the therapist brushed parts of our body with her fingers to release toxins. The treatment was rounded off with more towels and a quick back massage.

What’s On staff will do many things for our readers, but getting sunburn isn’t one of them, so we can’t testify to how well it will work on irritated skin. But the aloe vera was extremely cooling (so cold, in fact, that it gave us a little jolt at first), and we left feeling hydrated. At Dhs295 it’s good value as well.

The makers of the Universal Contour Wrap, which has just been introduced at the Eastern Mangroves Hotel & Spa, claim it can reduce the appearance of cellulite in three sessions – and you’ll get your money back for the first session if you don’t lose at least a combined six inches from all over your body. The treatment uses mineral-rich clays and body wrapping to compress fatty tissue. Expect to be wrapped tightly with piping hot bandages that have been soaked in clay. A silver, thermal suit is slipped on while you lie on a bed for 45 minutes. We lost 7.8 inches ‑ impressive, but you’ll definitely need to go more than once.
