PICS: Dubai in 2017
PICS: Dubai from above

From booking a pedicure to reporting a road smash, or even sending a police supercar emoji, here are the top ten Dubai downloads.

STYCK

Free on iOS and Android
We all know walking is good for us, but it’s not always our first choice of transport here in the desert. For a bit of encouragement, this app monitors your steps and rewards ‘streaks’ of days where you achieve more than 7,000. Prizes range from stand-up paddleboard sessions to discounted juice detoxes.

CAREEM

Free on iOS and Android
Can’t be bothered standing around in the heat trying to hail a cab? There’s no need with Careem, a homegrown car service that allows you to book cars or SUVs in advance or instantly, using the app’s location function. You can pay by card or cash, and can even reserve child car seats.

BEEM-ME

Soon to be launched on iOS, Android in development
Created to solve a very Dubai problem, this app pledges to revolutionise the way we book our beauty appointments. Want a manicure? Select your time slot and rough location, then let the app search availability at a range of salons on your behalf so you don’t have to ring around.

DUBAI BROKERS

Free on iOS and Android
As anyone who’s lived in Dubai for a while knows, a good real estate agent is worth their weight in gold. This new application from the Dubai Land Department makes finding one much easier, allowing you to search the top agents, ranked by volume of sales and rentals, before contacting them directly.

MDUBAI INDIVIDUALS

Free on iOS and Android
Dubai’s e-government app includes all sorts of helpful tools and info to make life easier. Pay your Dewa bill, report a road accident, find a pharmacy or even enquire about court proceedings. If it’s government-related, you’ll find it here.

FETCHR

Free on iOS, coming soon on Android
Developed in Dubai, Fetchr recently received a huge funding boost direct from Silicon Valley. Designed to make deliveries easier in emerging markets by finding a phone’s location instead of a physical address, it offers cash on delivery, same day and return options. The days of waiting in for the Aramex man could soon be behind us.

WAZE

Free on iOS and Android
The world’s first community-based traffic app, Waze not only acts as a sat nav, it’ll also warn you of upcoming speed cameras, accidents and jams. Connect with your friends and family and it’ll allow you to send them personalised directions, or warn them if you’re going to be late due to traffic.

DUBAI EMOJI

Available on iOS for around Dhs5
This one doesn’t actually serve much practical purpose, but we love it nonetheless. The world’s first city-themed emoji keyboard contains 70 Dubai-specific characters, ranging from a shisha pipe to a pair of Ray-Bans. We particularly love the white Range Rover with the number plate 1.

THE ENTERTAINER

Free on iOS and Android, but voucher books cost around Dhs400
Packed with discounts ad deals, the Entertainer book had a digital makeover a few years ago and recently added a voucher-swap option. Use the app to search for deals near you and enter your pin to claim the discount.

GREEN STEAM

Free on iOS and Android
Much as we love a drive-thru Starbucks, we don’t love the effect an emergency stop has on our latte. Thankfully, the Green Steam team can send a valeting team to your phone’s location to perform everything from a small tidy to a full clean up of your car’s interior.
