New timings aim to improve availability, manage demand and reduce misuse across the emirate

If you’re a Sharjah resident or heading towards the cultural capital of the UAE soon, take note of this new update to parking hours and save yourself a fine.

On June 25, Sharjah Municipality announced an extension of public parking services in Sharjah city, Kalba, Khorfakkan, and Al Dhaid, effective Wednesday, July 1, 2026. According to the municipality, the parking zones will charge fees until midnight.

The update standardises paid parking hours across Sharjah, with zones marked by yellow signs now operating on the same schedule as those marked in blue. Previously, yellow-sign zones had shorter paid parking hours.

Parking will remain free on Fridays, as well as on official public holidays.

According to Khaleej Times, Hamed Al Qaed, Director of the Public Parking Department at Sharjah Municipality, stated that the modification comes in response to the growing demand for public parking services across the emirate.

Al Qaed stated, “The decision keeps pace with the urban, demographic and tourism renaissance witnessed by the cities of the emirate as a whole.”

The decision follows a comprehensive study of parking use, demand rates, and distribution areas paired with feedback from residents and visitors. With ongoing economic and commercial expansion across the emirate, extending public parking until midnight will help improve availability for customers while also reducing misuse and managing demand more effectively.

Al Qaed confirmed that extending operating hours will not increase seasonal subscription fees, which will remain unchanged. Subscribers will get added value, with the daily free parking window increasing by two hours, from 14 hours to 16 hours.

Sharjah Municipality is reminding the public to observe official parking hours and use approved payment methods, including SMS and the Digital Sharjah app.
