It was a historic win for Godolphin’s Blue Point on the final day of the racing festival…

Royal Ascot is considered one of the most important and popular horse racing meetings in the calendar, and the five-day festival certainly made cause for celebration for H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Vice President of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

The Dubai Ruler was present over the five days of Royal Ascot to see Godolphin’s Blue Point, ridden by James Doyle, secure a rare two-race win; galloping to victory in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes on Saturday June 22, as well as claiming the title of King’s Stand Stakes on the opening day of the racing festival on Tuesday.

After Blue Point’s win on the final day of Royal Ascot, Sheikh Mohammed received the winning trophy from Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom.

Earlier in the week, Sheikh Mohammed received the award for the King’s Stand Stakes from the Duke of Cambridge Prince William amidst cheers from crowds.

Sheikh Mohammed said it was an ‘easy decision’ to run Blue Point in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes after his earlier win.

“He is a very good horse, and after he won the King’s Stand, it was quite an easy decision to run him again,” Sheikh Mohammed said of the five-year-old by Shamardal. “We wanted to see him another time at Ascot before he goes to stud at the end of the season.”

Godolphin’s Blue Point is the second horse to win both awards since 2003, when Choisir clinched the double.
