One of the most luxurious brands in the world have confirmed plans for their first hotel in the Middle East.

Bulgari, who are best known for fine jewellery and perfumes, are set for opening in Dubai in 2017, two years later than originally planned.

The Italian brand’s 158,000 square metre resort on Jumeirah Bay Island will be their fifth across the world, following Milan, Bali, London and Shanghai. The opening is part of a push to open 20 new hotels around the world in the next five years, though no further expansion is expected in the Middle East.

The complex will feature a 101-room hotel, 20 hotel villas, 15 mansions, 165 apartments and eight penthouses spread across six towers. It will arc around a 50-berth marina and specialist Bulgari yacht club.

Bulgari has been part of LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton for the past years, in 2011, a French luxury goods retailer with Qatari backing.

Jumeirah Bay Island is an as yet unfinished manmade archipelago off the coast of Dubai, jutting out in the shape of seahorse. Access will be direct from Jumeirah Beach Road near the old Jumeirah Beach Club, shortly before Mercato Shopping Mall. It will, in total, spread over 6.3 million square feet.

Meraas are also currently seeing huge progress on their Bluewaters development opposite JBR. When complete, the new tourism hub will feature the world’s tallest Ferris wheel, the 210-metre Dubai Eye (surpassing the Singapore Flyer, which stands at 168m), as well as a Jumeirah resort.
