THE INTERVIEW
Riding the waves with Mohammed Rahma, the first professional Emirati surfer to represent the UAE…

Surfing in Dubai - Mohammad Rahma

What was your first surfing experience like? It was at Sunset Beach and it changed my life forever. I have loved the sport ever since that first wave.
What do you love about surfing? I find that surfing feeds my soul and silences my frustrations. I feel like a better person after a surf. It’s just me and Mother Nature and I can do whatever I want, the way I want.
How hard is it? Learning how to surf is easy. It’s very addictive which means once you get into it, all you’ll want to do is surf.
Where do you surf in Dubai? I like going to Sunset Beach and Mamzar Beach.
How does someone get involved in surfing? I’d recommend calling one of the surf schools in the UAE and taking a lesson so you can learn the tides, how to stand up and how be safe in the water. One really good surf school is Surf School Arabia. I teach there sometimes.
