The queue at immigration upon arrival at DXB airport will soon be a thing of the past…

Great news for regular travellers – you can now use your Emirates ID card instead of your passport upon arrival at Terminal Three. That’s not all: your Emirates ID now gives you automatic access to the e-gate service at the terminal.

That’s right, no more waiting in immigration queues: all people with a valid Emirates ID (so basically all residents) can now stroll through the e-gates at Dubai Aiport’s terminal three.

This makes the extra Dhs35 fee we now pay for flying out of Dubai Airport seem entirely worth it.

The new initiative was initially rolled out at Terminal Three (the Emirates Airline terminal), and this weekend we used it at Terminal One.

There are 28 e-gates at terminal three, and there is no charge for the service, and no registration needed – you could turn up with your Emirates ID today and use the service straight away.

Lt-Colonel Talal Al Shanqeeti, Assistant of the Director-General of The General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA), told Gulf News that the move will ensure “a smooth and easy process for all travelers”.

The GDRFA has said it will also implement the Emirates ID e-gate service at departure too, so it won’t only speed up arrivals, but will soon serve to make the whole round trip a faster process. Win!
