Our top pick of the movies out in cinemas this week is Oscar favourite Fences, starring Denzel Washington and Viola Davies…

Here are all the new flicks you’ll be able to go see from today…

Fences

Fences has already had a huge amount of Oscar buzz, thanks to its incredible leads Denzel Washington and Viola Davis. Based on a Pulitzer Prize winning play by August Wilson, it tells the story of Troy (Washington), a sanitation worker in 1950s America, who was a talented baseball player that missed his chance to play in the big leagues. When his frustrations erupt, the repercussions on his family are devastating.

Fist Fight

Films about school bullies are nothing new – but when the bully is one of the teachers? That’s a comedy worth watching. English teacher Mr Campbell (Charlie Day) finds himself on the wrong side of history teacher Mr Strickland (played by a formidable Ice Cube), who threatens to beat him up at 3pm in the parking lot after school. It isn’t long before the whole school gets involved (there’s even a hashtag #teacherfight). The A-list cast including Tracey Morgan and Christina Hendricks, make this worth a watch.

Florence Foster Jenkins

Meryl Streep is her usual excellent self in this film based on the true story of Florence Foster Jenkins, a 1940s socialite arts patron who longed to be a professional singer, and refused to let a little thing like not actually being able to sing get in her way. Hugh Grant plays her doting (and patient) husband St Clare, and Simon Helberg (who you’ll recognise from The Big Bang Theory) is her long suffering pianist. Basically, if it’s got Meryl in it, we’ll watch it (same with Denzel).

Also out this week:

Irada (Hindi)

My Ex and Whys (Tagalog)
