Get six delicious doughnuts covered in Ghirardelli chocolate…or not

UPDATE 4/5: It looks like the demand for free chocolate-covered doughnuts has far outweighed the supply as Uber struggles to keep up.

The promotion for the free delivery of six Krispy Kreme doughnuts went live this morning at 9am, but it appears that many customers are not able to put in an order with some getting the ‘No Cars Available’ notification that all Uber users dread.

Others have reported that the option to order is not even appearing in their app.

Naturally, people have taken to social media to express their displeasure over the sticky situation.

To Uber’s credit, they have been very active on their Twitter account letting customers know that demand is high and they should be patient and try again in a couple of minutes.

Multiple people on the What’s On staff have attempted to put in an order since the promotion went live and we haven’t had any luck either.

No cars seem to be available anywhere in the vicinity of Dubai Media City for doughnut delivery, whilst there are plenty on the car-hailing services’ other options such as Uber SELECT and the low-cost UberX.

At least this is a good thing for those less interested in sweet treats, and more concerned in getting somewhere on time.

For the rest of us? We intend to remain vigilant and see this out. There’s still a few hours left until the promotion runs its course, so hopefully things will calm down a bit after the initial rush of orders.

Here’s a sweet treat to wrap-up to the week. Uber and Krispy Kreme are joining forces tomorrow to deliver doughnuts right to your doorstep, completely free of charge.

The promotion runs from 9am to 12pm on May 4, and requires you to have the Uber app installed on your smartphone.

Uber and Krispy Kreme will deliver you a box of six Ghirardelli doughnuts for free

You simply need to fire up the Uber app between the allocated time, swipe on the Krispy Kreme pop-up that will appear at the bottom of the screen, and follow the instructions.

Soon enough a box of six Ghirardelli-flavoured Krispy Kreme doughnuts will be delivered to you via one of Uber’s couriers. Delicious.

While we’ve gone on record as not being huge fans of Uber’s app, at least they seem to be putting it to good use by letting customers indulge their sweet tooth before the weekend.

Haven’t we seen something like this before?

We sure have. Deliveroo pulled a similar type of stunt last August, offering pizzas delivered for only Dhs1.

Sadly, the promotion proved so popular that they sold out in just two minutes, leaving many pizza-lovers (including some of the What’s On staff) hungry.

Here’s hoping that Uber and Krispy Kreme have got their act together for what will undoubtedly be an enormous amount of orders heading their way come 9am tomorrow. Never forget the great pizza famine of ’16…
