Up to Dhs25,000 is available for students looking to take their ideas forward

Students across the UAE who believe they have an idea that could make a real difference to society are being invited to apply for a new grant scheme.

The scheme, launched yesterday, offers students up to Dhs25,000 in funding to help make their ideas come to life.

It’s the second grant programme launched by Expo Live. The first, the Innovation Impact Grant Programme has attracted over 1,100 international applications from more than 100 countries.

You’ve probably heard all about Expo 2020 Dubai, but you may know less about its innovation programme, Expo Live.

It’s pretty cool, actually – the programme, which launched in January, has a fund of US100 million (Dhs367 million), which will be used to support projects that offer creative solutions to improve people’s lives.

Now, it has launched the University Innovation Programme (UIP) to support students in the UAE. Applicants are required to have innovative ideas relevant to the region on either a large or small scale. They must all be focused around social impact, meaning something that helps others, from a local community to millions across the UAE.

It is the first time that Expo Live is inviting grant applications for innovations at the ideas stage. The international grant scheme requires all projects to be at least implemented or further ahead.

“Our goal echoes the overall theme of Expo 2020 Dubai: ‘Connecting Minds, Creating the Future. The programme will allow university students to learn the power of collaboration” explained Yousuf Caires, Vice-President at Expo Live.

The deadline for all applications is October 31. Like with all Expo Live programmes, the solution must to be aligned with Expo 2020’s subthemes of opportunity, mobility and sustainability and it must generate a social impact.
