Headed to the Burj Khalifa this NYE? Here's what you need to know
There’s a brand new show this year – here’s what you need to know if you plan to check it out…
The New Year’s Eve show at Dubai’s Burj Khalifa has become an international spectacle, watched worldwide as the clock strikes midnight in Dubai.
Although there are no fireworks this year, the ‘Light Up 2018’ light show that’s replacing them is being touted by organisers as a never-before-seen spectacle that uses Downtown’s buildings as a canvas.
But there’s a few things worth noting if you’re heading along to the Guinness World Record attempt this New Year’s Eve.
From road closures to public transport, here’s what you need to know.
Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard will be closed from 5pm to 8pm (once the parking area is full). Any permit-holders for parking in the Boulevard area are required to come before 5pm.
On Happiness Street, the intersection of Al Murooj Rotana leading to the Burj Khalifa and tunnel will close at 6pm; the Emirates Towers intersection will follow at 8pm.
Financial Centre Street and Al Sukuk Street will close at 8pm.
Al Asayel Street will be closed from Oud Metha Street to Financial Centre Street at 4pm, with only public transport and emergency vehicles allowed through thereafter.
Public transport: Buses
An additional 170 buses will be put on from the Burj Khalifa event area. These will include:
90 buses on Sheikh Zayed Road in the direction of the Financial Center, taking visitors from Burj Khalifa Metro station to Al Jafiya Station and the Mankhool Prayer yard.
20 buses on Sheikh Zayed Road in the Abu Dhabi direction, taking visitors from Burj Khalifa Metro station to Noor Bank Metro Station.
35 buses taking riders from the Financial Center Street to parking lots at Al Wasl Club, Jafiliya and Deira City Center.
20 buses on Financial Center Street taking riders to the parking of Al Jafiliya Station and Al Mankhool Prayer yard.
5 buses taking riders near the Dubai Water Canal and Noor Bank Metro station.
Public transport: Metro
The Red Line will be operational from 5am, Green Line from 5.30am on Sunday December 31, and continue running through until 1am on Tuesday January 2, 2018.
Burj Khalifa Station will be closed from 10pm on New Year’s Eve.
An additional 4000 parking spaces will be provided for public use outside of the event space. These will be serviced by the additional buses as advertised above. The parking spaces can be located as follows:
1500 parking spaces at Eid Musalla at Mankhool
1000 parking spaces at Al Wasl Club parking
1000 parking spaces at Dubai Water Canal
500 parking spaces at General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs at Al Jafiliya
