As a public holiday is anticipated on Sunday September 1, the new academic year will begin for most students on Monday September 2…

Most students across the UAE will enjoy an extra day of the summer holiday this year, as schools plan ahead for the probable upcoming public holiday.

Although the new academic year for most schools was scheduled to begin on Sunday September 1 as per the Ministry of Education, it’s likely that the UAE will enjoy a public holiday on the occasion of Islamic New Year on September 1, meaning students will now go back to school on Monday September 2.

Schools contacted parents on Thursday August 22 to notify them of the change in date, reports The National, and also advised parents to allow extra time for their first morning commute to school as the new term begins and roads around local schools become busier.

The Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) are yet to make any comment on their social media platforms.

The Dubai Government has already announced that there will be a public holiday for the private and public sector on the occasion of Islamic New Year. The holiday is expected to fall on either Saturday August 31 or Sunday September 1, but is still dependent on the sighting of the moon.

We already know there’s going to be a dry night on the occasion of Islamic New Year, which will run from 6.30pm on Saturday August 31, until 7.30pm on Sunday September 1.
