UAE schools confirm extended 4-week winter break for 2025–26
Everything parents need to know about the new UAE schools winter break schedule
Good news for families across the UAE: the winter break for UAE schools just got longer. From December 8, 2025, to January 4, 2026, students will enjoy a full four weeks off, up from the usual three. That extra week means more time for holiday plans, rest, or catching up on whatever has been missed during a busy first term.
This change is part of the official 2025–26 academic calendar approved by the Ministry of Education and education regulators in all emirates. Schools following Asian and international curricula alike will close for the break, with classes resuming on January 5.
Keeping seniors on track without missing the break
Not every student gets a total pause, though. Senior students gearing up for board exams may have extra classes during the break to help stay on track. But for most families, this extension offers a well-needed chance to relax and regroup after months of study.

Balancing breaks and board exam prep
Many schools have been proactive in sharing the extended winter break dates well ahead of time, allowing families to plan effectively. While the majority of students will enjoy the full break, some institutions have scheduled extra sessions for senior grades preparing for important exams. This balanced approach ensures students stay focused academically, while still benefiting from a longer, more restful holiday period.
Parents are already welcoming the early notice. Having confirmed dates months ahead makes it easier to book flights, organise family visits, or simply plan quality downtime without last-minute stress.
So whether you’re heading home to visit loved ones, planning a staycation, or just looking forward to some quiet time, this extended winter break gives you extra space to make it happen.
