A Dhs1.8 billion Dubai Conference Centre has just been announced that will include hotels, restaurants and shops when completed.

The centre will be built on a 55,000 square metre site in Al Jaddaf facing Festival City, Director General of Dubai Municipality Hussain Nasser Lootah said the project will be characterised by having “a magical location with a distinctive panoramic view of Dubai Creek, considered a perfect destination for business people and tourists”.

OBE Architects were chosen to design the Dubai Convention Centre, and have released a concept video giving us a glimpse as to what it may look like. The mesh roof looks beautiful, and can we have a moment for that garden and pool in the CENTRE of the skyscraper?

The centre will be near the just-opened Versace Hotel, as well as the upcoming Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Library. Head here to read about five other new projects that have been announced.

Despite the name, the Dubai Conference Centre isn’t all conference halls. You’ll also find two hotels – a 33-floor three-star hotel and a 48 floor four-star hotel – as well as a 36-floor office building there.

Connecting the conference halls and the hotels will be The Concourse, a covered, air-conditioned glass corridor designed like a boulevard, with shops and restaurants spread over The Concourse’s 150-metre stretch.

The Dubai Conference centre will consist of a three-level, 10,000-capacity Sheikh Rashid Hall conference venue, with 190,000 square feet of space and 30 metre-high ceilings. The venue will be used for not only conferences, but also for seminars, concerts and theatrical shows, having been kitted out with the latest in display and audio technology with multiple cinema screens for both video conferences and films.

Aside from the main Sheikh Rashid Hall, there will also be five smaller sub-halls taking up a total area of 10,500 square feet that can accommodate up to 1,000 people.

Lootah from Dubai Municipality has noted how important the Dubai Conference Centre is for Dubai, saying that it will “directly contribute to improving the status of Dubai as the best city to live in at a global level”.

Lootah went on to reiterate how much attention Dubai Municipality has paid to the establishment of tourism and service projects, which include the advancement of infrastructure, utilities and projects in order to further better Dubai’s tourism sector in the run up to World Expo 2020.
