The Hallelujah crooner will perform in Dubai for one night only.

Award-winning vocalist, composer and songwriter Rufus Wainwright is bringing his silky tones to Dubai Opera this December.

The New York-born, Montreal-raised singer has released eight studio albums and three live albums to date, including the Grammy-nominated Rufus Does Judy at Carnegie Hall and Release The Stars which went gold in the UK and Canada.

You might know him best for his work on film soundtracks, like his cover of Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah for Shrek, and Complaint de la Butte for Moulin Rouge, as well as tracks for Brokeback Mountain, I am Sam and The History Boys.

Dubai Opera is a fitting venue for the star, who penned his own classical opera about the day in the life of an opera singer. Prima Donna debuted at the Manchester International Festival in 2009, and has gone on to be performed around the world.

His second opera, Hadrian, is set to premiere in Toronto next year.

“From Carnegie Hall to Covent Garden, Rufus Wainwright has graced the stages of the world’s most famous stages with sell-out shows and sensational performances,” said Dubai Opera chief executive Jasper Hope.

“I am delighted he’s agreed to add Dubai Opera to that list and I know we’re in for an unmissable night of outstanding music and musicianship this December.”

Wainwright will perform in Dubai on Wednesday, December 6, with tickets to go on sale on July 20 starting from Dhs295.
