Manny Pacquiao is coming to the capital
What’s On has details about Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao’s upcoming appearance in the capital, as part of the charity walk/cycle RahmaYas.
While boxing legend Manny Pacquiao won’t be stepping into a ring this Saturday, November 7 while visiting Abu Dhabi, the star athlete will be sweating it out with fellow participants at a special charity fitness event on Yas Island.
RahmaYas is a charity walk and cycle around Yas Marina Circuit and will see guests either run or walk 3km on the famed Formula One circuit and cycle two laps on the track. The event hopes to raise awareness about Rahma, a cancer support charity, and raise as much as Dhs200,000 through entrance fees and additional donations.
There will also be an entertainment village with live music and healthy food and beverage options available at the event.
This may be the last chance for Abu Dhabi-based fans to see the ‘Champion of the People’ up close and personal, as Pacquiao has announced he will have one last fight before retiring for good and focusing on his political career. Rumours are rampant as to who his final opponent will be (Briton boxer Amir Khan is an option) and where he’ll hang up the towel for good, with both Las Vegas and Dubai mentioned as possible locations. But who knows, after his visit to the capital this Saturday, Abu Dhabi may be in the running too.
“Having Manny’s support for Rahma is something we’re very proud of,” said Dr Jamal Sanad Al-Suwaidi, chairman of the board of directors of Cancer Patient Care Society. “If one man demonstrates the passion and determination to succeed, it is him. I know that his presence at Yas Marina Circuit this weekend will inspire the community, as well as raise awareness for our charity.”
Rahma, which means mercy in Arabic, is a charitable service that launched last month by the Cancer Patient Care Society in Abu Dhabi to provide practical and psychological support for people diagnosed with cancer.
