Didn’t know that today, Sunday August 6, was Jamaican Independence Day? Not to worry – there’s still time to make plans.

It’s the motherland of jerk chicken, rum and reggae, and that’s reason enough for us to celebrate.

1. Miss Lily’s

Celebrating the 55th birthday of the nation that has given us fiery food, jovial vibes, and Miss Lily’s Dubai, the outlet is throwing an independence day soiree. Sway to the rhythmic beats of DJ Crown Prince while tucking into some authentic island offerings. For Dhs200, enjoy a sampling of jerk corn, hot pepper shrimp, cod fritters, chicken wings and mini patties from the special Independence Day Platter. All the regular a la carte menu items will also be available.

2. Tribeca

Tribeca are throwing a Jamaican-themed party and flying one of the most well-known Jamaican bands over for the occasion. D-TONE are famed for their enthusiasm and talent for all things reggae, so for one night only, guests are invited to shake their tail feathers all night long to the best Caribbean hits. The venue will get a full make over, so you’ll feel like you’re sitting on the sand sipping Pina Coladas.

3. Ting Irie

Ting Irie will be celebrating Jamaican Independence Day with a ‘Summer Sundaze’ night. Jamaican DJ Ranger takes to the decks bringing an authentic island vibe, plus there’s three special cocktails for the occasion. You’ll also be able to check out a couple of new additions to the menu: stew peas, a traditional staple in the Jamaican household (Dhs190), and a mixed seafood platter (Dhs249), with mussels, fish cakes, tiger prawns and king crab.
